Dr. Stephan van Eeden, Respirologist, graduated from the University of Stellenbosch, Cape Town, South Africa with training in Pulmonology and Critical Care. He did his PhD in the Department of Experimental Medicine at the University of British Columbia with Dr. James C Hogg as his supervisor. He graduated in 1995 and completed his Canadian specialist examination (FRCPC) in 1996.

He is a principle investigator in the James Hogg Heart and Lung Institute (Centre for Heart Lung Innovation), St. Paul's Hospital and his clinical and research interests are lung diseases such as Chronic Bronchitis & Emphysema or COPD, lung infections and the effect of cigarette smoking and air pollution on the lung and heart. He is the Director of the COPD Chronic Disease Program in Providence Health Care and his research effects have resulted in more than 110 peer reviewed publications.
